GREEN LABEL PLUS CARPET

While it is obvious that outdoor air can be polluted, many forget the importance of a pollution free indoor environment. Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a growing concern for many families and businesses. CRI launched its original Green Label program to test carpet, cushions and adhesives in 1992. This helped consumers and specifiers choose flooring with very low emissions of VOCs. To further this effort, CRI has recently launched Green Label Plus carpet and adhesives. Green Label Plus carpet sets an even higher standard and ensures that products bearing its label have the lowest VOC's in the industry.

So what are VOC's? Volatile Organic Compounds occur in a wide range of household products like paints, solvents, wood preservatives, aerosol sprays, cleaners and disinfectants, bug repellents, air fresheners, automotive products, dry-cleaned clothing, and yes even carpet. While a small level is not serious and is virtually unavoidable, in higher concentrations VOC's can cause a myriad of health problems like eye and respiratory inflammation and irritation, nose and throat discomfort, headaches, skin allergies, nervous system issues like loss of coordination, dizziness, visual disorders, and nausea (just to name a few). Many of these compounds have been shown to even cause cancer in animals. According to the EPA "Studies have found that levels of several organics average 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors. During and for several hours immediately after certain activities, such as paint stripping, levels may be 1,000 times background outdoor levels." While these facts are alarming, our customers can be assured that products bearing the Green Label Plus seal have been tested by an independent lab. CRI even partnered with the EPA to create these standards.
