Polyester fiber was created in 1953 by the DuPont company. Polyester fibers are strong, resistant to stretching and shrinking, and resistant to most chemicals. Polyester fibers are also quick drying, crisp and resilient when wet or dry, wrinkle resistant, mildew resistant, abrasion resistant, retains heat-set pleats and crease, and it is easily washed. Polyester carpet fiber has become an industry standard. Polyester is synonymous with low prices, but now its stain resistance and resilience means these products perform great too.
