I feel very fortunate that we've been able to hold our own through a weak housing market and high energy costs. It's never easy, but with a little hard work and some great employees, we continue to get the job done.

I feel there's a simple explanation for our success in a tough residential flooring market with $4.00 gas and high grocery prices competing for our dollars. People are looking for great deals. Maybe for the first time in a real long time, the average American has to look for deals just to get by. I know I'm blowing my own horn a little bit, but it's true. Our prices beat the socks off the big boxes and the traditional retailers. It's not even close. So when a consumer wants to save a substantial amount of money on floorcovering, they start to look around, and a lot of them find Carpet Express. When you compare apples to apples, or their best flooring deal in a certain category against ours, we usually win big. I honestly feel consumers' necessity for increased savings has fueled our residential business.

Looking at a larger picture, I feel the dollar may stabilize around it's current value. Our export business has increased over the last few months due to the weak dollar and this trend could be a big plus for the economy. Also a stable or strenthening dollar could lead to lower gas prices. Obviously increased exports and lower gas prices would be great.
