Luxury Vinyl Tile, Ceramic Tile by Shaw TileThis January, Shaw announced that it was leaving the rug business, and that the Ringgold, Georgia facility will be a new luxury vinyl tile (LVT) manufacturing plant. Shaw decided to use the existing building to decrease the time frame of when they could being manufacturing the luxury vinyl tile. Also, utilizing the existing facility keeps the jobs in Northwest Georgia.
Scott Sandlin, the vice president of hard surfaces at Shaw, said that the company always tries to keep and increase the number of jobs in communities where they already operate. The company plans to invest $285 million and create 875 new jobs in Northwest Georgia. Two hundred of the new jobs will be at the LVT plant in Ringgold when it is fully operating. The company will begin hiring in 2015 for the different jobs, which will be available in a wide variety.  In addition, the Catoosa County Economic Development Authority approved a tax incentive, which is designed to help with the retooling of the plant.
Scott Sandlin says that Northwest Georgia has a nice of amount of resources, which make it a smart place for the flooring industry to manufacture. The proximity of the other manufacturers in the arrive fosters more innovation from Shaw. In addition, Sandlin says that Shaw plans to invest an additional $1 billion in capital over the next five years, which will mostly be in Northwest Georgia. Shaw’s commitment to Northwest Georgia is shown by how they cultivate a competitive workforce, foster economic development via innovative education programs.
