Many people with allergies and asthma were told to remove all of the carpet from their homes, but studies have shown that removing the carpet only increases the occurrences of allergic reactions. All of the dust and allergens just rest on top of the hardwood flooring, and they are kicked back up into the air whenever the floor is walked on or cleaned. Carpet traps the allergens and dust so they do not float around in the air when people walk across the floor. The Carpet and Rug Institute\u2019s blog gives more information about the research studies used to verify that carpet is more hypoallergenic than hardwood flooring.
